After registering your Fred Meyer Rewards Card and loading your eCoupons, you are ready to start redeeming them. Here are a few rules to help you out…
1. You CANNOT stack a paper manufacturer’s coupon AND an eCoupon at Fred Meyer. This is a recent policy change.
Digital Coupons Rules
2. You CAN stack a store coupon AND an eCoupon at Fred Meyer, but it is tricky.
If your Rewards Card is scanned BEFORE your store coupon, then your eCoupon will come off as expected, but your store coupon will either : 1. Not Scan or 2. Give you LESS of a discount.
Not fair, huh?
To get around it, have the cashier scan your store coupon first, then your Rewards card. This is again tricky because Fred Meyer’s registers take a LONG time to process eCoupons. If you scan your card too late, your eCoupons will not come off. Scan the card AS SOON as the cashier has scanned that store coupon (hopefully you will either have more items to ring up or other coupons to scan that will buy you some time).
3. You CANNOT Stack eCoupons.
This can be confusing because Safeway will gladly deduct ALL of your similar eCoupons (from ALL of the different sites) for ONE item. This has NEVER happened at Fred Meyer.
Before Fred Meyer had their own eCoupons (operated through Soft Coin) you could use multiple eCoupons – so long as you bought the appropriate number of products (meaning only one eCoupon would come off per product bought). However, once SoftCoin starting running things, they ended this. If you REALLY want to use all of those similar eCoupons, you’ll need to break-up your transactions.
4. Fred Meyer’s eCoupons are notoriously problematic.
Most of the time, I realize I’m at fault when my eCoupon doesn’t come off (you can read more about these problems here), but Fred Meyer’s eCoupons just seem to be a bigger headache for most than Safeway.
So, if there are problems getting Fred Meyer’s eCoupons to work AND I cannot stack them with a manufacturer’s coupon AND I have to be tricky to get my store coupon savings AND I can’t redeem multiple eCoupons, why would I even bother loading them?
- Sometimes there are eCoupons available that we do not have as a paper coupon (particularly on Fred Meyer’s site, where you can often find eCoupons for things like soda).
- Say there’s a catalina promo and you need to buy 5 items, but you can only print 4 coupons? Add an eCoupon to this order! Or, if you want to roll a catalina, but used all (or most) of you coupons for your first transaction, you can load eCoupons to save more on your second transaction.
- eCoupons can be higher value (remember that $3 off Charmin eCoupon?)
- Ever lost your paper coupon on the way up the register? Thank goodness for eCoupons!
- If you are confident in your eCoupons, you could also save money on paper & ink, by skipping the printables and opting for eCoupons.

I love the recent Charmin and Bounty eCoupons but can I really only use them ONCE?!
Yes – major bummer huh?
The good news is that these reset almost every month & usually FM will have a sale sometime during then.
Crazy. Thanks for the info!
Please watch what you are asking for the cashier to do when you scan your coupons! My ex-sister in law lost her job because on an audit of her drawer she had turned on so many coupons and her drawer total was suspicious to the management. She broke the company policy on coupons by taking coupons for more than the cost of the items causing the store a monetary loss. Her union rep couldnt help her on this so she was let go. I think the stores are taking it out on the employees because I heard of an employee at another local Fred Meyer that was suspended for doing something like that.
Fred Meyer’s registers will beep if you try to use a coupon that is worth more than the value of the item.
Because Fred Meyer will NOT publish an official coupon policy, we are subject to each store’s policies. In most cases, the cashier will adjust the value of the coupon down to the product amount. This is NOT the correct thing to do as the store will still be reimbursed the full value of the coupon.
The correct action would be to re-ring your item at the same price of the coupon, however, it is rare that a cashier would do this.
In either case, the store gets reimbursed for the full amount of a coupon and would never suffer a monetary loss unless the coupon was fraud (copies from a computer, fake coupons, etc) or if for whatever reason, the manufacturer learned that the store wasn’t giving the customer the full amount of the coupon value, but claiming it (I’m not sure how they track this).
So if I have a higher value paper coupon but the ecoupon was loaded, would i just hand them the paper coupon before letting them scan my card?
Alina–once your ecoupons are loaded and you do scan your rewards card–there is no way to undo the ecoupon. I am a cashier at FM and I have had this problem with customers before. We have no way to undo it because it is something the customer chose to load onto their card.
Crystal–I can also answer your question as to why some cashiers seem angry or upset about taking a lot of coupons (when the store is going to be reimbursed for the manufacturer ones)–FM has a very strict policy about taking store and manufacturer coupons. If something is rang wrong, and the company deems it a loss to the company the employee at fault loses their job. They have a very precise tracking system and we are audited all the time. Yes, it is nice for customers to get some great deals, I coupon a lot myself, but I am not going to lose my job for a customer. Especially when I provide medical for my husband and children.
I do appreciate your webpage and all of the info you share. Thank you for providing all of the coupon info, dates and promos. Employees of stores are not always informed of special Catalina promos, so it is nice to find a place where I can see those.
